Birkenau is a tale of four Jewish musicians and their struggle to survive in the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. In a grey world filled with horrors, music becomes both a source of solace and desperation, as the smoke from the ovens rises towards the sky, and the four remember their lives before the camp. If the four survive, nothing will be as before.
In the course of the story, the players will decide whether the four are willing to resist against all odds and what their Jewish legacy and life mean to them. The story is inspired by grim reality and has no happy ending.
The game utilises music to set the mood and are played using theatrical elements without the confines of the classical tabletop. Silence and immersion are important elements in a predefined story leaving great freedom for the players to interpret the roles. The game concerns death, loss of family, discrimination and guilty conscious. Knowledge of The Second World War, music or Jewish culture is not a prerequisite.
Jonas is neither Jewish or a musician, but is fascinated by stories with strong emotion and immersion. He prefers it when a game can be felt and stays with you.
