Writing for SSF

Stockholm Scenario Festival offers both newly written scenarios premiering at the festival and previously played scenarios that have been featured at other conventions and festivals. The latter are carefully selected by our scenario team, while new scenarios are warmly welcomed—we cordially invite you to contribute your own.

If this sounds intriguing, please submit your scenario ideas by completing this short form no later than 15 May. We welcome both beginners and experienced designers, whether local or international, and we are truly looking forward to reading your ideas!

Submitting the form does not commit you to anything. Its purpose is simply to help us identify those interested in creating a new scenario for this year’s festival and to assist us in planning ahead.

SUBMIT YOUR SCENARIO IDEA HERE

What happens after you submit the form?

  1. We will contact you and confirm that your form has been received. We will ask you to join our (closed) Facebook group with the other interested designers, where you can share ideas and get support.
  2. During the spring, you can continue working on your concept. We encourage you to perform a play test of the game before June 30th.
  3. Before July 31th – you need to fill out a form with more information, such as a promotion text, a picture, required room size, number of players, and length of your scenario. Based on this, we can create a schedule and open sign up. The form will be sent to you via email. Once you submit this form, you commit to finishing your scenario by the deadline in October.
  4. August 31th (Preliminary) – Sign up opens. All scenario writers need to sign up and pay the same fee for the festival as all other participants.
  5. October 18th – You need to send us your finished scenario which will be published on our website. Since most games will be run in multiple parallel sessions with different game masters, an instruction for someone else to run your game needs to be included.
  6. November 20-22th – The Festival!

(If you are writing a one-hour scenario, you will follow a simplified timeline, as these do not need to be finalised for advertisement when sign-up opens.)

Some basic guidelines for scenarios at SSF

  • The scenario must fit within a 1-, 2-, or 4-hour time slot, including preparation and debriefing.
  • It should be written in a way that allows anyone to run it using your description. After the festival, all scenarios will be published on our website.
  • Scenarios should preferably be written in English, though Swedish is also acceptable.
  • If your scenario requires props or costumes, these must be provided by you as the designer.
  • At least one playtest is required before the festival. From experience, we know that scenarios evolve significantly through testing.
  • As a designer, you must be personally present to facilitate your scenario at the festival.
  •

We’re really looking forward to reading your scenario ideas!
