At the end of the 1800s, people in Sweden felt that their country needed a sense of national pride – shared history and traditions for all to gather around. At the same time, society was changing rapidly, and the agrarian society of old was disappearing.
This scenario tells the true story of the Hazelius family, from the childhood of Artur Hazelius, the founder of two museums, through the life of his heir and into the present day. It’s about people who have come to matter much less than the things they did, and trying to imagine what it was like to be them. What was it like for Artur to be sent to the countryside, away from his siblings and parents at 9 years old? What was it like for Artur’s son Gunnar to continue his father’s legacy instead of seeking his own? What was life like for the women who are only remembered in relation to their husbands and brothers? These and many more are questions that we will answer together. Get ready for sweet moments, tragic loss and devotion to a grand cause.
